Cleveland Utilities Selects Exceleron’s MyUsage®

Dallas, Texas – January 6, 2016 – Cleveland Utilities of Tennessee has joined a growing number of utilities that have selected Exceleron Software’s MyUsage to offer prepay accounts for electric, water, and sewer service.

Municipalities, investor owned utilities (IOUs), and rural electric cooperatives across the country are switching to a prepayment model in which customers pay for electricity before they use it. MyUsage gives customers the tools to manage their energy usage without feeling confused or overwhelmed. Customers who opt into the prepay program can access their account balance and usage history via the MyUsage smart phone application, web portal, telephone, email, and text messaging. They can add funds to their prepay account through a variety of convenient payment options and they can choose the amount and frequency of payments. MyUsage gives customers greater control over their utility service consumption and budgeting practices.

Cleveland Utilities has partnered with Dallas-based Exceleron Software, the leading software developer of prepay solutions for the utility sector. In the coming weeks, Exceleron will integrate MyUsage with Cleveland Utilities’ existing systems, including its advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), customer information system (CIS), and payment processors. Then Cleveland Utilities will complete a pilot program before offering prepay accounts to all its residential customers in the spring or summer.

“Cleveland Utilities is the 16th utility provider in Tennessee to select MyUsage to launch and manage their prepay program,” said Jeff Severs, COO of Exceleron. “We thank Cleveland Utilities for recognizing the advantages of our solution, and we couldn’t be more pleased with this opportunity to help even more Tennesseans take control of their utility service consumption and budgeting.”

MyUsage offers full functionality for launching and managing prepay accounts without any need for the utility to purchase additional hardware or in-home devices. This minimizes the risk and expense of launching a prepay program, allowing utility service providers to pass the savings on to their customers.
